The ransomware WannaCry / WCry / WannaCrypt also affects computers running Windows 7 such as the positions under Windows 8 , Windows Server and even the old Windows XP . Although it has benefited from hundreds of updates since its release, Windows 7 is not infallible and the most common Windows must also be patched to avoid being infected by ransom software, some kind of virus that locks the computer’s files .
As with other versions of Microsoft’s operating system, it is recommended to enable automatic updates of Windows 7 to automatically receive the latest fixes. This is done through Windows Update or via a server WSUS in the company.
This procedure only applies to Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Released in March 2011, SP1 should already be installed on all machines running Windows 7. The others have not been maintained by Microsoft for some time now.

- Windows 7 in 32-bit / x86 Qualitative security update only for Windows 7 (KB 4012212) – March 2017

For the past few months, Microsoft has been offering update packages that accumulate the patches released since the beginning. So there is no need to install 150 updates since this rollup already includes all packages. This also avoids installing an update that is then replaced by another one KB , more recent or fixes another problem with the same component.
To date of the WannaCry virus, the May 2017 patch is the most recent available (KB 4019264).
